I found this recipe awhile ago scrolling through Pinterest and I finally got around to trying it.
I was intrigued by the use of Dr. Pepper and was hoping that it would be a prominent and interesting flavour for the ham. Unfortunately it was not.
I’m thinking it could be due to one of two reasons: 1- not enough Dr. Pepper was used. The recipe called for 3/4 of a cup. Next time, I would be inclined to use a full cup. Or 2- the ham I bought was too flavourful on it’s own.
For the first time, I bought a full ham that was smoked. I usually buy one of those small toupee hams, with 25% less sodium. I definitely noticed the extra salt, and it did take away from the ham for me.
However, I did really enjoy the brown sugar flavour from the glaze, and found it to be excellent. I will for sure try this recipe again with more Dr. Pepper and a different ham.
