**SPOILER ALERT ** possible spoilers as this is the second book in the Shades of Magic series
I have to say, I really enjoyed A Gathering of Shadows. Sure it was a little slow going with the plot, but V.E. Schwab writes so well that I still was able to enjoy the kind of filler plot points.
That being said, when the plot did start to get going, it was fantastic! Kell! Lila! Rhy! Alucard! Amazing! Loved loved loved, everything that they did or happened to them! Ahh this book was just so fantastic to get lost in.
The Essen Tasch was really interesting for me to read about as well. I like reading about magical battles, especially if they’re elemental magic. Another series that does this great is The Queens of Renthia series by Sarah Beth Durst.
Anyhow, The Essen Tasch was a fabulous add-in to the story and the technical parts of the tournament were easy for me to follow.
A Gathering of Shadows ended with an intriguing kind of cliff hanger to lead into the third and final book and I cannot wait to find out what happens next.
My copy of A Gathering of Shadows also included a short story at the end around the magician Kisimyr, as it is the collector’s edition. The short story was fantastic and I really hope to see more of Kisimyr in A Conjuring of Light. I’m hoping that the final novel and the series is going to end in an epic magical battle. That is my dream.
