Mosquitoland is one of the sweetest books that I have listened to. I know I say this a lot, but I really enjoyed this audiobook.
Mosquitoland follows a teenage girl, Mim, as she travels by herself on a Greyhound and then later with some stray boys that she finds along her journey to be with her mom for Labour Day weekend.
The plot changes between what is happening in the present during Mim’s travels, but also memories of her past which provides backstory in letters that she is writing.
During her journey, Mim processes her parents’ divorce, her dad’s new wife, mental health issues (her own and her family’s), a pedophile intent on her, bullies, a lost mother, a handsome and mysterious young man, and a steadfast friend named Walt.
This story was beautiful and unbelievable and amazing in so many ways. It made my heart both happy and ache for Mim and her family and friends. Well worth the read or listen.
