One of my most favourite triliogies from when I was in highschool, was the Abhorsen trilogy. When I first read it, it of course consisted of three books: Sabriel, Lirael and Abhorsen. Since then, the fabulous Garth Nix, has released other books, not only in the Old Kingdom world, but also revisiting some of the characters from the original trilogy.
Previously I have posted about a short story collection, To Hold the Bridge. Today’s short story collection, Across the Wall, also revisits the Old Kingdom world. Unfortunately, like To Hold the Bridge, there is only one story, the title story, that takes place in the Old Kingdom. The rest of the short stories are unrelated.
However, don’t let this deter you from reading this fabulous collection of stories. There were so many in here that I enjoyed reading. The book was hard to put down.
Once you have finished reading, Across the Wall, for sure read: Down to the Scum Quarter, Hope Chest, Three Roses, and Endings!
There is even a very interesting create your own adventure type story. So fun to read something different!
So if you’ve read and enjoyed the other Abhorsen and Old Kingdom novels, I would highly recommend reading the short story collections as well. Even if you are only revisiting that world for just one story.
